Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service

At 10.35 Hrs on the 18th February 2008, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service Control received a 999 call indicating that an adult male had got his arms stuck in agricultural machinery at Rinnion Hill Farm, West Hall, Brampton. Retained fire crews from Longtown and Brampton were alerted and upon attendance at the farm, found the casualty was trapped by both arms in the belt drive of an industrial lime spreader. In conjunction with paramedics the crews displayed great ingenuity during the rescue by dismantling the belt drive mechanism utilising rescue equipment. The crews were able to extricate the casualty after approx 35 minutes and he was transferred to hospital by air ambulance.
