Neil Wright
Democratic Services Officer, Lincolnshire County Council
I started work in 1962 with Holland County Council in Boston, becoming a Junior Committee Officer two years later. I have been with Lincolnshire County Council since 1974 and though job titles have changed, I am still in the democratic process. The work is about attending formal and informal meetings and producing an accurate record of what's said. It's still as exciting and enjoyable as when I started. Meetings are at the cutting edge of decision-making and where new ideas and developments are first discussed. Over the years I have supported many different council committees such as Police, Planning and Social Services, as well as outside bodies such as Probation and the Archaeological Trust. My work fits in neatly with my hobby of local history and industrial archaeology in Lincolnshire, and I aim to write my minutes in plain English to help historians who read them in future years.
