John Morris - WINNER!
Street Scene Services Operative, Horticulture - Braintree District Council
John has worked for Braintree Council as a Gardener since 1970 and helps to keep the District looking its best. John also works at Witham Cemetery. Committed to his work there, he always does more than expected of him, helping visitors locate graves, lending a friendly ear in time of despair. When tending personal family graves in his spare time, he doesn't think twice about helping visitors locate graves and even helps them to tend the plot. He has a very dignified approach to his work. In his spare time, John sails and regularly takes part in the annual 'Row for a Reason', where competitors race for five miles, raising money for charity and collectively the rowers raised over £10,000 for the charity of the year - Cardiomyopathy Association and Farleigh Day Hospice (Maldon). John also won a Community Award in our 2008 Award Ceremony for his excellent work in and out of the workplace.
